Turning and turning in the widening gyre | The falcon cannot hear the falconer | Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold | Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world | The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere | The ceremony of innocence is drowned | The best lack all conviction, while the worst | Are full of passionate intensity. -- W.B. Yeats, The Second Coming

Coincidentally, a former professor of mine at Adelaide, Dr. Michael Roberts, likely Sri Lanka's leading historian and political anthropologist, has been building a rather massive and dense blog that you might interesting, devoted to ethnicity, nationalism, and conflict in Sri Lanka:

THUPPAHI

Since his site links to the Sri Lanka Guardian, it's likely that he would have seen your article, John.

A note for anthropology readers: Michael had a tough time as my supervisor at the time, as I then tended to favour instumentalist notions of ethnicity. Since then, I have instead come around much more closely to his views, which I describe as anti-anti-essentialism, some of which I wrote about early on in this blog. He is great scholar of (post)colonialism and I credit him for providing some of my main inspirations...not that I would blame him for anything on this site ;-)
